An (apocryphal ?) quote for today

The first reading today from 2 Corinthians 9 deals with everyone’s favorite topic … money (i.e. charitable giving).  Verse 7 reads: “Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”  There is a famous and rather appropriate quote for today attributed to Martin Luther (of Protestant Reformation fame) that I cannot seem to find a reference for.  So, I’m not sure if he actually said it or if it is apocryphal.  Anyway … he is noted as saying:

There are three conversions a person needs to experience: The conversion of the head, the conversion of the heart, and the conversion of the pocketbook.

In response to our scripture reading today may our prayer be that we would experience this conversion of the pocketbook that we might be more cheerful givers.
