Physical reminders of the word of God

Today’s first reading is kind of interesting.  The people are first told to take the words of Moses into our heart and inner being:

Take these words of mine into your heart and soul.

Yet right after that we find that the people are told:

Bind them at your wrist as a sign,
and let them be a pendant on your forehead.

Apparently, hiding the words of the law in their hearts wasn’t sufficient.  Maybe they too easily forgot.

I don’t know a lot of people who still put the Old Testament law on their wrists or on their foreheads.  However, I have seen a carryover of this when I have seen some put up physical reminders of scripture.

I’ve seen some tape scripture verses on the dashboard of their cars.  Perhaps this helps them meditate on scripture on their way to work.  I’ve also seen some place scripture verses around their work stations.  Perhaps this is helpful for them to be able to step back and think about what’s really important while they are at work.

What about you?  Do you put up any physical reminders of scripture around you?  Is it helpful to you?
